Comment:

Blake was recruited as the number 24 draft pick in the 1999 AFL Draft from the Beaumaris Football Club. He made his debut for St. Kilda in Round 9, 2000 against the Western Bulldogs. He played his 100th match for the Saints in round 9 of 2007 against Fremantle at Subiaco.

Blake played in St Kilda's 2004 AFL Wizard Home Loans Cup winning side - St Kilda Football Club's 2nd AFL Cup Win.

Blake is a versatile footballer, having spent much of the period between 2003 and 2006 as a ruckman for St Kilda, but also been able to play forward, back and be a tagger in the midfield. Whilst he is at times maligned by St Kilda fans, Blake capped off an improved 2007 season by finishing 9th in the club's Best and Fairest, the Trevor Barker Award.

Blake played in St Kilda's 2008 AFL National Australia Bank Cup winning side - St Kilda Football Club's 3rd AFL Cup Win.

Blake played in 22 of 22 matches in the 2009 AFL Premiership Season Home & Away Rounds where the St Kilda Football Club qualified in first position for the 2009 AFL Finals Series, winning the club's 3rd Minor Premiership.

St Kilda won direct qualification through to the 2009 AFL Grand Final after Qualifying & Preliminary Final wins. Blake played in the 2009 AFL Grand Final where St Kilda was defeated by 12 points.

As of the end of the 2009 AFL Premiership Season, Blake had played in 11 AFL Finals Series matches - including 1 AFL Grand Final - and 2 AFL Cup Finals

In his 11th season at the club, Blake has performed whatever role required of him (and there have been plenty along the journey) with the minimum of fuss. The utility was a key member of the AFL's stingiest defence in 2009, lining up on forwards tall and small. He notched his third consecutive top-10 finish in the best and fairest and was second for total marks with 181. Underrate him at your peril.
