SENIOR GIRLS BRAVE, BUT RUE MISSED CHANCES

On Sunday our Senior Womens team were defeated by Old Haileybury by 2 points in a game that was ultimately decided by a 25 metre penalty to the goal line with 2 minutes left on the clock. It was was a sad and cruel way for our girls to bow out of the 2018 season .

It was a fiercely contested Preliminary Final, but unfortunately we couldn't convert the overwhelming amount of possession and inside 50's we had. The Haileybury defense was superb and deserve the credit for the win. They figured if they could limit our scoring and sneak a couple of goals in the meantime, then they could beat the minor premiers. And that's how it panned out.

It's difficult to single out better players as every girl in the team contributed and gave their all, but Ash Harvie and Simone Payton were dominant in the middle, Sam Baisas did a great tagging job on Haileybury's best running forward, Nadia Eldred was always a threat out wide, Poppy Kelly was strong in the air, Courtney Bateman was superb rotating between ruck and centre half back and the ever reliable Steph Bornyan was brilliant on the last line of defense.

It was devastating for our girls who have gone out in the Premlin final for 2nd consecutive year. But there will be heaps of motivation to take into the 2019 season from the lessons learnt from Sunday's game.

This is a very tough group of players.

Congratulations to Simone and the whole team on a fantastic season finishing the home & away matches on top of the ladder. Special thanks also to Coaches Rob Giabardo and Mark Francis and Team Manager Karen Kerr.
