BFC Elects a New President

The Beaumaris Football Club held its AGM at the Sandringham Yacht Club on Monday 27 November and in the process elected a new Club President after the incumbent President, John Murton, announced his retirement from the position.

John, who has served the club with great integrity and passion, hands over the reigns to current vice-President Terry Lucas who comes to the role with a determination and desire to oversee a successful and financially sustainable football club as it enters a new era at the Beaumaris Sports Club. Terry was unanimously voted in.

Outgoing President John Murton was resoundingly congratulated for his hard work and leadership during his three year tenure as Club President. John will continue working at the club in the capacity of Football Manager.

New President Terry Lucas is renowned for his dynamic and visionary approach to business, to life and to football coaching.

He joined the BFC in 2005 when eldest son Matt, now playing in the seniors, was 8 years old. Terry is married to Janelle, has five children and lives within a couple of kicks from Oak St. From 2006 to 2016 he coached the Under 9s all the way through to the Under 19s. Currently Terry has two boys playing in the Senior section of the club, one in Under 19s, one in Under 9s and a daughter in Auskick.

Terry played footy at Oakleigh Dragons, Mazenod (triple premiership player) and Prahran, with brief stints at South Melbourne and St Kilda 19s and Reserves in the mid 80s.

In accepting the President's position Terry has issued the following statement:

"I'm truly honored to be elected President of the Beaumaris Football Club. I follow in the footsteps of some amazing Presidents, people who have dedicated a large part of their lives to making the Club what it is today - ONE CLUB very much on the up - 38 teams and 1,400 official members.

After 11 years of coaching and a couple of years as Vice President, I'm now very excited about leading the Club. My saying as a coach was "If you can't give your best, give your all" - I promise our members I will certainly give my all to the role as we strive to provide an environment for our your men and women and all our members that allows them to develop, enjoy and thrive.

I am delighted with the appointment of Guy McKenna as our senior coach. I look forward to working with Guy and all our coaches and committee members in season 2018 and beyond to make our Football Club the envy of all others.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Murton for his leadership over the last three years. John and his family have dedicated themselves to the Beaumaris Football Club and only those close to it would know how many hours they have put in. An amazing effort and I hope all members take the time to thank John and Vanessa over the coming months.

In finishing I would like to highlight one particular word. "RESPECT". It is the very cornerstone of life's value system and something I hold very dear. I believe we as a Football Club have some way to go in being truly respected on and off the field. This will come in time, as each and every one of our players and members understand the importance of the role they play in creating a respectful environment.

Respect for our players, our coaches, our officials, our members, our officials, our community, our club, our clubrooms, our equipment, our umpires, our opposition....

It's about "our" and "us" and it's about RESPECT. We all have a massive role to play.

I can't wait for 2018 but there's a lot of work to do before the season starts. The Senior and Junior Committees are already working hard preparing for 2018. I encourage anyone who wishes to provide assistance or sponsorship to give me a call. Get on board. You'll have some fun.

"Through Football Better Citizens"

It was 1980 when my dad first came up with that slogan as President at Oakleigh Dragons.; I truly believe in it and know it will hold true at the Sharks.

I look forward to seeing you at the new BSC which should open in the second week of December. Please support it. It will be fantastic.

Fins Up. Go Sharks"

The club would like to wish Terry all the best in his new role as Beaumaris Football Club President.
