Cootey Celebrates 300th in Style

Cootey Celebrates 300th Senior Game a with a Big Win as a Player and a Coach.

In 1989, when Sean Coote ran out with the Beauy U8s no one would have thought that 30 years later he'd be doing the same as a Senior player, in his late 30's.

Indeed, after 300 Senior games and over 150 Junior games Cootey has stamped himself as a true legend of the Beaumaris Football Club.

To add to this special day Sean volunteered to coach the Reserves as well as playing. Prior to the game against Old Haileybury, Sean delivered an impassioned speech about playing for the Blue & Gold. He singled out every player with a game plan for each. It was great listening.

To honour the day, 2 players who have played many games with Cootey, Alex Bennett and Jared Evans made praiseworthy comebacks to support their great friend. Evo kicked the first goal of the game which set the standard for the rest of the game, the boys eventually running out 38 point winners.

Post game it was handshakes and hugs for a man who has inspired so many at the club for such a long time. Sean was supported by his family, friends and team mates, current and past.

Nick Loucaides, Luke McNicholas and Club President Terry Lucas delivered memorable addresses, Luke in Q&A form which was very funny.

Cootey was emotional in his response, but importantly it was what he said about the club and what it meant to him that resonated with everyone in the room.

It was a reminder about the importance of community and friendship and the personal support that can be generated in a football club.

They were words for the ages, delivered by one the best.

Congratulations Cootey!
