VALE KATRINA MARY LEASON

This weekend the Beaumaris Football Club wishes to acknowledge and show our respect for an amazing woman who contributed not only significantly to our club, but also to the broader football and local Community.

Katrina Leason lost a tough battle with cancer on Wednesday. Our arms are open to her husband Peter and Lachlan and extended family now and always.

Through her professional life she worked hard at all levels of government and community organizations to create healthy, inclusive environments. As the AFL Vic Respect and Responsibility manager she Successfully developed & implemented a ‘respect and responsibility’ training package which reached 15,000 club members across 3 leagues and 93 clubs. “The cause” as she referred to it, to  increase women’s and girls’ participation in grass roots football is alive and thriving now.  Her policies and research have been implemented to ensure football clubs become strong role models for the community and have significant capacity to promote gender equitable inclusive environments.

The Beaumaris Football Club was fortunate to have Katrina as part of our committee. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes raising funds for the club via sponsorship and as an integral cog in the wheel for the establishment of our wonderful ladies lunch which has become a tradition, and an event where funds are raised not just to give back to the football community but also  to local community organizations. Katrina also advocated for the rebuild and funding of the Beaumaris Secondary College.

Thank you for being a part of our community. We will miss you.

Rest in peace
