Seniors Produce a Top Effort

Seniors Produce Top Effort to Defeat Uni Blacks in the Sockit2MND Round.

It was pretty much a must win game for our Seniors yesterday against a team who defeated us comprehensibly twice last year.

In recent weeks we have been competitive, but poor kicking for goal had cost us dearly. But not yesterday. The final score showed a much better return for our shots on goal.
BFC 11.6-72 def Uni Blacks 7.12-54.

This was quite possibly the best all round team performance in the last 2 years, at least the equal of last seasons one point win over Caulfield Grammarians.

This was a tough game and one in which, despite down on bench numbers due to injuries Nathan Lynch and Jono Nash, our boys displayed a grittiness and determination that captivated the parochial Beauy crowd.

Post game Coach McKenna praised the efforts of our ruck duo, Chopper Heath and Matt Lucas who had tremendous games. He also made special mention of our younger brigade Oscar McMaster, Riley Virtue, Connor Murphy and Harry Houlihan.
A resurgent Jak Nardino kicked 2 great goals, one a towering kick from well outside the 50 arc, while Joel Di Natale was tireless all game and Ryan Bennett has really made the most of his elevation to the Senior side.

But it was the efforts of the clubs past two B&F winners Lewis Diggins and Scott Gower that was upper most in the coaches thoughts. These two defenders played amazing games. Diggins’ astute reading of the game and his running in support of the player in possession gave us opportunities to open up the game by switching or finding an open teammate with a bullet pass.

Gower’s intercept marking and ability to clear the ball is second to none. He is like a fortress and showed yesterday what a valuable player he is to our Senior side. The fact that Blacks, normally a prolific goal kicking team only kicked 7 goals was a tribute to Gower, Diggins and our whole backline.
Well done guys, it was a tremendous win against a quality side.
