Sometimes in the pursuit of match day team pics you run across a surprise. Such was the case recently when we ventured out to King George Reserve in Bentleigh to photograph one of the U8 teams only to run into the car parking chaos that is ever present at that ground. In short, we missed the U8s game having to eventually park on the other side of East Boundary Rd, but by coincidence the U10 Blacktails were putting up a really good display on the adjoining ground against Bentleigh, winning their game in strong fashion. After on-ground presentations, the boys sang the club song in grand fashion back in the sheds.
Well done to our U10 Blacktails and to coach Shaun Mooney who was standing in for regular coach Jim Mundy.
Later that same morning we went down to Southern Road Reserve which is hidden in the back blocks of Mentone where our U9 Great Whites team were up against St Bedes. Our guys were under manned against a good St Bedes team and despite the shortage played hard right to the end.
This team is coached by former Demons high marking dynamo Russell Robertson, who as we know from his 'Shark of the Month' presentations is very committed to these boys and they hang off his every word. Russell’s son Tex is in this team. Also in this team is young Sonny McKinnon the 4th boy of the McKinnon clan who have all played at the BFC and in the case of 3rd boy Tully is still going strong in the U15 Div 1 team. Great to see.
So this week we have two Junior ‘Teams of the Week’ - the U10 Blacktails and the U9 Great Whites.
