Club Celebrates Matt Petering's 200th

The Club celebrated Matt Petering’s 200th in style despite losing to Fitzroy on Saturday.

Not everything went to plan on Saturday for the 200th game milestone celebration for captain Matt Petering.
Fitzroy FC, who were in a tight relegation tussle, came out firing and snatched a 6 goal lead by Qtr time, a lead which we weren’t able to overcome.

Final scores: Fitzroy 9.7-61 def BFC 6.14-50

Congrats to Fitzroy who avoided relegation and will remain in Premier B. Other results went our way that day, which enabled us to stay in the top four. We will now face Uni Blacks in an elimination Semi Final on Sunday at Box Hill City Oval at 2:30pm.

Pre-match on Saturday it was great to have Jack Scrimshaw come and say a few words at the luncheon. Jack is a former Junior champ of our club who now plays for Hawthorn’s AFL side.

We also had the Tedde brothers Lachlan and Campbell play together in the Senior team for the first time. Well done guys and to the Tedde family for your ongoing commitment to the club over many years. Thank you

Post-game on Saturday the club came together and celebrated the decorated career of Matt Petering with speeches and presentations, the highlight being a grill Q&A session delivered by former team mates Sean Coote and Alex Bennett and a very humorous tribute by Matt’s old on-field partner in crime Rob Cathcart. The younger players loved it!

During the day we also had the countdown for the $15,000 Reverse Draw raffle, which was ultimately won by Ryan Heath, which certainly pleased his Mum Liz. Great for Ryan as he has been a regular volunteer behind the bar recently. The Club Captain drew out the final few tickets. Thanks to Greg and Trace for all their work putting the draw together and Marc Selby for his amazing numbers banner.

We'd especially like to thank everyone to came to the club on Saturday for the lunch and Saturday night to not only celebrate the milestone, but also to support the footy club. There was a tremendous vibe in the club room all day.

Also thanks to the following sponsors who made tremendous contributions – Case Dolce, IGA Concourse, Steve's Meating Place, The Merchant and Napolitana Pizza.

In addition, we’d like to acknowledge ACC Catering for their fantastic food at lunchtime and the Beauy Cricket Club for their assistance and support.

We’d especially like to thank all the volunteers who manned the bar, the canteen, the BBQ and helped clean up. The club couldn’t have done it without you.
