Poppy Kelly Plays First AFLW Game

Momentous day for the club today having our first Senior Womens player to play in the AFLW.

Poppy Kelly, who was an integral part of our 2018 BFC team, played her first AFLW game for St Kilda against Freo today, unfortunately losing by a point.

At the 2018 BFC Best & Fairest awards Poppy won 'Best Finals Player'.

Interest from St Kilda catapulted her into the Saints VFL Womens team and now the Saints AFLW team.

From a Beauy perspective, we're very proud to have someone come through our Senior ranks into the AFL system. In fact, we encourage all girls with AFLW aspirations to take a similar path.

Throughout the the 2019 season Poppy would come down to training at Beauy to help and the assist the ruck group.

The joint BFC Junior & Senior Womens program is a tremendous pathway to launch a VFLW and a AFLW career, if that is on your radar. For the record, our U18 Girls won the SMJFL Grand Final last year, while our Senior Girls made the Preliminary Final in VAFA Div 1.

At the game today we had a number of Senior and Junior girls there to support Poppy. Pictured here are Senior girls Sam Baisas, Sasha Long, Thea Brown, Courtney Bateman and Danielle Royal as well as Junior girls Hayley Love, Erin Selby and Daisy Ward. Daisy has the Shark painted on her face as a show of support from the old club.

For all girls wishing to play Senior footy this year at the BFC and we're looking for more girls, text or call Brent Ward - on 0409 583 493.
