The VAFA season got underway on Saturday with a reduced fixture, which featured both U19s teams and our Youth Reserves team competing in the Thirds Division 2 competition.
The U19s first’s team were promoted to Premier Division in the off season. Premier is the pinnacle for U19s footy in the state and we commenced our new rea in this grade with a strong win over De La Salle at Waverley Oval.
This was an outstanding win against a traditionally strong club. Key for us was our defence which held De La to just 2 goals for the game. Our goals were shared by 9 players.
This was a great start to the season for new coach Caine Groves and his Prem team, which faces a mighty challenge against the powerhouse clubs in that division. Well done guys!
Playing at Oak Street the U19 Div 4 team seemed to be their own worst enemy, going down to Caulfield Grammarians by 8 points. Certainly, players and coaches alike will feel this one got away. In patches, these boys played outstanding footy, but inconsistency cost them against a good Grammarians side.
In the earlier Oak St game, the Youth Reserves team gave veteran coach Danny Kelly a tremendous win on his return to the club. Danny is a multiple premiership winning coach for the club at Junior level and his attacking vision was on show as his team played some tremendous footy enroute to a 50 point win over Richmond Central in the Thirds Division 2 competition. A big reminder the Club's season launch takes place next Thursday 11th at the club, commencing at 6PM. We invite all Life Members, Sponsors, Parents of Players, Players, Coaching staff and Supporters to come together to celebrate the beginning of the 2024 footy season.
