Max Heath debuted in the AFL for St.Kilda last Sunday in their match against Sydney at the Docklands Stadium. The Saints had a red-hot crack all day and Max and his nickname, “Moose”, became quite a focal point of the talk on Ch 7 as the commentators loved the way he tackled Sydney big man, Brodie Grundy, and dragged him down for a holding the ball free kick. There was great excitement when Max kicked his first AFL goal and the only disappointment for the day was the Saints inability to nail the win in a close finish.
There was another Beauy connection involved with the game as Max was presented with his guernsey by injured Saints’ star Max King, son of Senior Beaumaris Premiership player Brook King.
Max is the younger brother of the current BFC No.1 Ruckman and dual Club Champion Callum Heath and the son of our Club President Nick Heath.
He became the 35th Beaumaris player to run out as an AFL player and the 12th to wear the Saints guernsey.
In fact he was one of an outstanding crop of Juniors to don the Blue & Gold in the 2011 Under 9s team that is shown below.
Max is pictured in the team photograph from that year along with fellow Saints Mitch Owens & Marcus Windhager, North Melbourne draftee Jacob Edwards, and Sydney Swans listed Rookie Will Edwards.
