Dani Wearne Appointed Captain

During the Covid lockdown last year the BFC lost one of its favourite sons with the passing of Life Member Mick Wearne.

Mick was a long time player, in both Juniors and Senior footy and served many years as a coach and administrator after his playing days were over. Mick was awarded Life Membership of the BFC in 2018.

On Thursday night his beloved daughter Dani was appointed Captain of the Senior Womens team. This is a tremendous accolade for Dani, who, because of last year's lockdown is yet to play a Senior game for the BFC. However she has impressed coaches and teammates alike with her leadership qualities and her football skills. Leaders are voted by the players and coaches.

When it was announced on Thursday night after training Dani told head Coach Brent Ward that she wanted to "honour the memory of her father."

Club President Terry Lucas, who coached Dani as a junior said he was "enormously proud of Dani", who he described as a "special football talent who will make her father proud."

There's no doubt about that.

Also announced was Zoe Larrieu as Vice-Captain with Sam Baisas and club B&F winner Sarah Collins as deputies. The rest of the leadership group are - past captain Ellen Wood, who is now the first ever women’s players rep on the Senior Club committee, Jemima Savage, Danielle Royal, Belle Lewis and Loz Haringsma.

The Womens team will play in the VAFA Premier B comp this year.

Good luck to whole Senior Womens squad.
