Darryl Behrendorff & Danielle Royal Appointed Womens Coaches

Darryl Behrendorff Appointed Senior Women's Head Coach

In announcing the appointment Club President Terry Lucas issued the following statement:

“Firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to recognise the wonderful contribution of Brent “Wardy” Ward as senior women’s head coach for the last three years. Wardy has been a dedicated, passionate coach who gave his all to improve the women’s program. The women made finals in both seasons under Wardy’s leadership and it was a shame we didn’t get to play our preliminary final this year. Wardy can be very proud of what he has achieved and the position he has left the group in. “

“Darryl “Daz” Behrendorff now takes the reins as senior coach after being Wardy’s assistant and also the coach of the women’s reserves team. Daz is another dedicated coach who gives everything to help the women be better on and off the field. Daz will continue to build on his already strong relationships with the playing group and I have no doubt he will leave no stone unturned in the quest to make it to the big dance in 2022.”

“In addition, I am absolutely delighted that Danielle Royal has accepted the Assistant Coaching role for the Womens team. Danielle was instrumental in creating the first women’s team back in 2017 and has been a terrific player and person on and off the field. She now becomes our first woman to join the Senior Womens coaching group which is something we see as being very important to our club. Of course, Danielle does have some excellent genetics, being the daughter of Western Bulldogs Hall of Famer and BFC Football Director Brian “Choco” Royal.”

Good Luck to both Darryl and Danielle

In paying tribute to former coach Brent Ward, Womens team leader Zoe Larrieu wrote the following tribute:

“On behalf of all the girls we would like to say a huge thank you to Wardy for the last 3 years of coaching the sharks. Although we didn’t come away with the chocolates you have helped to build an incredible squad whose success wouldn’t have been possible without your commitment. Through 2 Covid impacted seasons you managed to keep the girls coming back and keep us motivated. Hopefully we will see you around the club next year for a beer or 10 and hopefully some premiership celebrations.”
