Despite missing several key players on Saturday, the Seniors women’s team overcame 2nd placed Old Camberwell to run out 43 point winners.
The girls maintained their high pressure footy philosophy, utilising their home ground knowledge to advantage. The two key forwards Sam McLean and Tarryn Hurst both kicked 2 goals apiece. These two girls complement each other, Sam with her height and marking ability and Tarryn with her speed and straight kicking. Tarryn’s mark at high speed on the run in the 4th Qtr was high calibre. She then converted from 35 out. Full forward, Sam has now kicked 32 goals for the season and leads all BFC Senior teams and the comp for goals scored.
Caley Ryan, who has adopted a midfield role, after starting the season on half back, was outstanding, particularly after copping a couple of hard knocks early. Her goal from an acute angle on the run was something special. Her positional play and courage in the contest was exceptional and she was clearly our best player.
The Tysoe trifecta of Taylah, Holly and Georgia were at their ransacking best, fierce at the ball and relentless in the chase. Hard to separate them.
Sarah Collins was solid all game in the ruck and Ella Southgate was a presence with her marking and long kicking. Emily Van De Water just doesn’t know how to lose a contest and was a rock across half back along with Mikala Clark.
Rosie Byrne was her usual busy self.
Final scores: BFC 6.8-44 – Old Camberwell 0.1-1
Congratulations to Loz Haringsma and Thea Brown who played their 50th Senior games for the BFC. Both girls have been tremendous players for the club over many years. Well done Loz and Thea.
The girls have 2 more home and away games left before finals. The next game is on July 16 at Mentone Grammar playing grounds in Keysborough @ 11:40am.
