Vale Paul Dear

Vale Paul Dear

It is with great sadness that the Beaumaris Football Club recognises the passing of Paul Dear.

Paul, Cherie, Harry, Nate, Maya and Calsher are much loved members of the Shark community. Led by Paul and Cherie, the Dear family have been significant contributors to the Sharks in all facets (playing, coaching, team manager, volunteering, etc) of club and community life.

More recently through Paul’s battle with pancreatic cancer, we have witnessed what love and family can collectively achieve - both for each other and for others affected by this uncompromising disease.

Paul played 123 games for Hawthorn during a nine-year career spanning from 1987 to 1996.

His greatest moment in the brown and gold came on Grand Final day 1991, helping lift the Hawks to premiership glory.

Facing a deficit at the first break, Paul inspired a stunning turnaround, gathering 26 disposals and booting two goals in a Norm Smith Medal-winning performance.

Recently, Paul, Cherie and Family set up the ‘Dare to Hope’ campaign to raise awareness and funds in support others impacted by this insidious disease - pancreatic cancer. https://daretohope.com.au/

Paul’s passing will be heart felt across the broad Shark community. As mark of respect both U17s Boys teams will wear black arm bands and ‘Dare to Hope’ socks for tomorrow’s games at Oak St (12:30 & 2:30).

The Beaumaris Football Club extends its sincere condolences to Cherie, Harry, Nate, Maya, Calsher and the extended family.

Rest in Peace our good friend Paul
