At this stage of the season every game is vital if you have finals aspirations.
On Sunday, the U17 Div 1 Boys were mindful that a misstep against Ormond would be costly. Wins don’t come easy against a club like Ormond.
But it wasn’t just premiership points on the table here, the boys were playing for a team-mate who had lost his father only days earlier.
That team-mate, Calsher Dear played in the game and went on to kick 5 goals in an inspired performance. His Dad Paul would have been extremely proud.
This team is in a tough division in the SMJFL.
Under17s boys footy is uncompromising. We have two teams in this age group, both with genuine premiership chances.
On Sunday the Div 1 boys didn’t have to look too far for inspiration. That kind of desire and motivation will be important in the next 7 weeks.
