Injury concern for Joel Cusack as Seniors scrape home against St Bedes.
Although the win ensured the Sharks retained the Brett Marchant Cup for matches against St Bedes, it was soured by an unfortunate injury to full forward Joel Cusack, caused by an accidental knock in the run of play.
Joel is key member of our Senior team and we wish Joel all the best for a speedy recovery.
The game itself was a bit of an arm wrestle. Needless to say, St Bedes play their home ground very well; we probably don’t, being more inclined to favour the wider spaces of Oak Street. That said, we lead at every change and saw off a fast finishing St Bedes with a couple of vital goals in the final quarter.
Campbell Tedde, up from the Reserves, was the only multiple goal kicker with 2, one coming from a tremendous mark in the goal square.
Connor Murphy continued his great form to be our best. He kicked an important goal from near the boundary in the 2nd quarter.
The Seniors and Reserves played their final home & away games at Oak St this Saturday against Fitzroy.
Meanwhile, the U19s suffered a loss to Old Xavs in their final regular season game. The result doesn’t change the outcome for us, although it did impact Hampton who will now miss the finals in favour of Old Xavs. We will play St Bedes in the major semi-final on Saturday at Brindisi St at 2PM, the winner going directly into the Grand Final, the loser to a Preliminary Final. Good luck to the 19s boys this weekend.
