Our two Under 17 Boys teams have been one of the great club successes this season. Coached by Senior and U19s guys, this is a tremendous Sharks community story.
The whole group is lead by coaches Tom Spencer and Kieren Dyer, who have devoted their Sundays to these two teams, despite playing Senior and Under 19s footy on Saturdays. Volunteerism at its finest. They have been ably assisted by Will Skinner and Ben Murphy.
The outcome is - this Sunday both Under 17s teams will play in Prelim finals against St Bedes. Who would have thought? It will be incredibly tough for both teams as St Bedes have been a powerhouse in this age division this year, but surprisingly lost both major semi’s last Sunday.
For us this season it has been a real team effort. When players have been called away, others have stepped up. We have contested every game with purpose and determination in both Div1 and Div3.
Last Sunday both teams qualified for Prelim finals with wins against East Sandy and St Kilda City, however this weekend’s action against a wounded St Bedes will be a major test.
Much of the credit for the success of these two teams must go to Team Captains Will Snowden and Charlie Bruce (Div 1) and Declan Tibb and Finn McAllister (Div 3). These boys have been outstanding leaders of the Beaumaris Football Club.
Last Sunday in the Div 1 game against East Sandy we dominated the game from the back half of the ground. Gaps appeared through the corridor and we took advantage. Credit to the coaching staff.
Fullback Tom O’Rourke was a powerhouse, controlling the game from the back. He was ably assisted by James Pepper, Elliot Styles, Charlie Harrop, Oscar Newstead and Charlie Bruce.
Jett Butler, Calsher Dear and Oliver Goodger all kicked 4 goals with Cooper Dowe kicking 2.
It was a great team performance.
Good luck on the Sunday guys, let the Sharks spirit prevail!
