U12 Girls Hang On for Amazing Victory

U12 Great White Girls Hold on for an Amazing Grand Final Victory

Midday through the season it looked for all money that the U12 Great White girls wouldn’t play finals footy. They had won only 2 games and they would have to win their last 4 games convincingly to get in.

Well that’s exactly what they did, finishing in 3rd place on the ladder with the same number of wins as Port Melbourne in 4th spot.

This resulted in a semi final against 2nd place Waverley Park Hawks, which the girls proceeded to win, setting up a Grand Final against the undefeated St Peters team.

As they say anything can happen in Grand Finals and as much as it was heartbreak for St Peters, it was elation for our girls who were brilliant on the day, holding onto victory by just 5 points.

If ever there was a heart stopping final 5 minutes – this was it, with the St Peters girls peppering our goals only to be thwarted by an incredible defensive effort. In the final seconds of the game Emily Ensor got her fingertips to a shot on goal which would have given St Peters victory. There was a collective sigh of relief amongst the Beauy contingent who were all fixated on the game.

St Peters were brave, but on the day we took our chances and deserved the win.

Charlotte Ellix was outstanding all game and deserved to win the SMJFL Best & Fairest award.

Sometimes the sweetest victories come for the unexpected, this was one of those occasions.

An amazing example of the true Sharks spirit.

Special thanks to coach Steve Connolly who has 3 girls playing in our juniors teams, including Tessa who plays in this team.

Final Score: St Peters 1.4-10 - BFC 2.3-15

Tremendous effort girls. WHAT A WIN!

Go Sharks!
