Farewell to two BFC Greats

Last Saturday the BFC farewelled two great servants of the club – Sean Coote and Mick De Fontenay.

It felt like the passing of an era.

Cootey has amassed an incredible 478 games for the Sharks from 1990 as an U/9s player, until 2022 as a 40 year-old Senior player. He takes a Senior B & F trophy plus two Senior and two Reserves Premiership Medallions with him. Right up until the last moment of Saturday’s game Cootey was taking contested marks in the goal square. From his time as a young player it seemed his long arms could stretch forever, timing his mark to perfection and then being able to quickly deliver a bullet pass by foot in the blink of an eye. A special player.

Recently Diff reached the 250 Senior game mark and leaves his stamp as an incredibly courageous and gifted player. He also is a multi-Premiership winner and most recently was captain of our Reserves team, always a player younger guys looked up to.

Importantly, both have been tremendous clubmen - leaders, motivators and organisers.

Although we bid both Cootey and Diff farewell on the field, we know that in future years both will play important roles for the club off the field.

The guys are pictured here with the Reserves team from Saturday in their final appearance for the Sharks.
