It goes without saying that a lot of effort, time and commitment goes into putting just one team out onto the field during the footy season, let alone 35 Junior and 5 Senior teams.
Every week our club does that.
The ‘behind the scenes’ infrastructure and organisation is quite extraordinary. It has to be.
So when finals come around, there is an opportunity for reward and celebration. Not every team will raise the premiership cup and unfurl the Grand Final flag. That’s footy, that’s life…
Last Sunday was a miracle day for the club with 8 teams competing in Junior finals Under 14 and above. We were fortunate to claim 5 premierships to add to the three we won last week.
For the winners it’s a cherished moment. We celebrate anniversary years and friends are made for life. For those who didn’t manage to win, the effort to get to a Grand Final is immense. Seize the opportunity to go one better next year.
A huge part of the infrastructure mix is the role of parents and volunteers. The Beaumaris Football Club has long been regarded as the ‘family’ club and this has only developed further with the advent of girls and women’s football. We see sibling premiership winners now, more than ever as well as father and daughter premiership winners.
We have multiple brothers and sister combos playing Junior and Senior footy. Families like the Lucas, McLennan, Tedde, Connolly, Meredith, Hancock, Dyer, Cunneen and many others have 3 siblings playing at the club. The clothesline must be permanently full with footy apparel and match day gear.
Winning is fun, but it’s not everything, as Juniors President Ben Conrad often says, “we must maintain our values at the highest level, because that’s the only way you’ll earn respect.”
Pretty good advice!
Special mention must go to the players from the U16 Girls teams, many of whom came back to the club on Sunday night despite their heartbreaking Grand Final losses. Their disappointment was palpable, but their presence was noteworthy and gutzy.
Congratulations to all finalists, Go SHARKS!
