The Beaumaris Football Club and Head Coach Guy ‘Bluey’ McKenna wish to advise they mutually agree to part ways after five productive years together. Both parties agree it’s time to refresh as they prepare to embark on their exciting next steps.
Bluey’s innovative approach to coaching and motivation had an immediate impact on a team that had been relegated to VAFA B grade in 2018. He moulded that squad into a winning one, narrowly missing the final four by percentage that season. Since then, the team has been a constant in the top 4, finishing the ‘home & away’ rounds for seasons 2021 and 2022 in 2nd place on the ladder.
Bluey will leave an indelible stamp on the Beaumaris Football Club, through his professionalism and knowledge. His win/loss record of 42/24 speaks to the impact he has had.
Football Operations Director Nick Heath thanked McKenna, “Bluey came to the club when it needed someone of his standing and experience to steady the ship and provide much needed leadership and respect. His record since joining the club has been outstanding. We are honoured to have had Guy McKenna coach our Senior Men's team and his time at the BFC will be remembered as a period of growth and stability.”
Retiring Club President, Terry Lucas, is currently overseas but had this to say, " I want to personally thank Bluey for everything he brought to the Senior Coach position and the club over the last 5 years. We started in our respective roles at the same time in 2018 and it's been a challenging journey that has required strong leadership and resilience. Bluey brought both of those qualities in spades, as well as his unique and experienced football brain. It was a pleasure working with him. His philosophy of “always aiming to be the best version of yourself” has had a great impact on me and many others. Our Senior list has completely changed since 2017 and Bluey should be proud of the many young men he has developed – he has laid a great foundation for the future with his impact on and off the field”.
The BFC Management Committee would like to thank Bluey for his tireless work and dedication to the role of Head Coach. We wish him and his family all the very best and look forward to seeing them around the club in the future.
