Under 17 Boys Bow Out Of Juniors In Style
The U16 Div 1 and U17 Div 1 premierships are prized titles in the rankings of Junior boys footy. In the SMJFL these two divisions are a badge of achievement and admiration. In season 2022, the BFC achieved a remarkable and memorable double by winning both trophies.
The significance is important because it provides the club with an imposing foundation for future U19s and Senior teams. It also provides a great platform for those boys with aspirations to play footy at the highest level. The BFC has been a tremendous nursery for AFL clubs, 5 draft picks last season being a case in point.
At the recent U17s Boys B&F there was a sense of accomplishment after a particularly challenging year. The Div 3 team performed brilliantly falling at the Prelim final stage to eventual winners St Bedes. The Div 1 team played one of the great Grand Finals defeating the powerful St Peters amalgam. The boys had to come from 3rd position on the ladder and win 3 straight finals to take the premiership. But that they did; it was a remarkable run.
At the B&F Head Coach Tom Spencer reminded parents and guests just how important it was to have such a competitive ‘seconds’ team. He thanked his coaching assistants Kieren Dyer (Div 3 Coach), Will Skinner and Ben Murphy as well as Team Managers, Rudi Sims and Angela Pepper.
For most of these boys Senior and U19s footy awaits them, which raises the prospect of some guys playing footy with their current coaches next season. That’ll be fun.
Well done to the whole Under 17s group and
congratulations
on a successful junior career at the BFC.
