The Beaumaris Football Club would like to announce the appointment of Steve ‘Stubba’ Scott to the position of Men’s Reserves Coach.
Steve Scott is a highly respected football brain and BFC club person. In recent years he has been runner for the Senior Men’s team. In his playing days, Steve was a tremendously talented footballer who combined skill with work rate and was a much sought-after junior prospect. His junior football career culminated in him earning VAFA u19s representation v. Vic Country.
Between 2014 and 2016 Steve was an integral part of the BFC Seniors team, however in 2016, Steve’s season was cut short in the Preliminary Final by a debilitating ACL injury, his third ACL in an injury plagued career. That year the Seniors and Reserves would go on to complete a memorable premiership double. For Steve it was a devastating blow not to play in the premiership team, however, admirably and to Steve’s credit, he has since dedicated himself to assisting the club off the field.
Football Operations Director Nick Heath welcomed Steve to the important developmental role of Reserves Coach: “Steve will bring his own individual flare to the club’s coaching ranks as well as provide a standard of fitness that he himself will set. Importantly Steve knows the players and will draw on his experience with injury adversity and being a VAFA State player to develop the players to get the best out of themselves. Steve is in tune with the importance of player retention and the smooth transition of Junior footy to Senior footy.”
Retiring Club President, Terry Lucas, had this to say, "I want to personally welcome Steve to the role of Reserves Coach. Stubba has a great football brain and is a humble and well-respected Beaumaris Shark. I was very impressed with his resilience and attitude after his ACL injury in the 2016 preliminary final. Stubba loves the club and the playing group and will bring energy, dedication, footy smarts and player development to the role. He will also benefit from the guidance of Josh Bourke and the new senior coaching group. I have no doubt he will continue to build on the excellent foundation provided by Lachie Batt and the other senior coaches”.
Steve will be working closely with Josh Bourke and his assistants Mick Lovejoy and Nick Moodie to ensure the Club has a competitive and well coached Reserves side, which will be crucial for player development and Senior team success.
We wish Steve all the best for season 2023 as he embarks on his coaching career.
Go Sharks!
