Vale John Howard Martin 1949 – 2022

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of BFC Life Member and former Club Vice-President John Martin last night.

John was a beloved member of the Beaumaris Football Club community. From the time John’s son Chris started playing in our Junior ranks in the 80’s, John has played an active hand in and around the club. A highly successful accountant by trade, John extended his talents to sponsorship and marketing as a vital member of the BFC Committee for many years.

John’s cheeky smile and charismatic personality endeared him to so many people. He was generous to a fault and never lost his love for the club, far beyond his son’s playing days and his time on the committee. He was a constant at Thursday night selection dinners, where he would roll out stories of his time doing stats for the Senior team out of van with his mate Sid Catlin. If the red wine was to his liking, he’d tell you all you needed to know about the Geelong Cats and who will win the 5th race at Moe tomorrow.

A highlight for John this year was Chris’s induction to Life Membership of the BFC. John was enormously proud of his son Chris who is a Club Champion and Premiership player and his grandchildren Ava and Archie, both of whom play at the club. In fact, Chris was Assistant Coach of Ava’s U14 Sharks team. Both Archie and Ava played their 50th games for the club this year. There was no one more prouder than John.

John will be greatly missed; his legacy will be long and lasting. Thursday nights at the club won’t be the same without John, his stories, his infectious laugh and his devotion to the club.

The club would like to extend its very deepest condolences to John’s family, his wife Margaret and his children Chris and Simone and their families.

John Howard Martin – Rest in Peace
