Women's Coaches Announced for 2023

The BFC committee is delighted to confirm that inaugural women’s premiership coach Darryl “Daz” Behrendorff will remain as head coach of the Senior Women’s team for season 2023. Danielle Royal, after a wonderful first season in 2022, will remain in the role of Assistant Coach whilst Rob Marinelli, who was an integral part of the coaching team in 2022 has accepted a role as Assistant Coach. We are thrilled to announce Milly Bartlem will also join the coaching group as an Assistant Coach. Milly (who was Vice Captain in 2022) needs no introduction to the playing group or the club, having played sensational football since the beginning of the women’s program. Milly brings great football knowledge and is also an excellent communicator, something we like to see in every Beaumaris Shark coach.

We would also like to take this opportunity to advise that Craig Edwards will be stepping down from his role as Assistant Coach due to commitments with his new business. Craig has been an integral part of the coaching team since 2019. Craig has done a tremendous job in many arears including team runner, assistant coach of both the women’s reserves (2021) and seniors (in season 2022). Craig also led several culture sessions that helped to build the strong foundation and contribute to the success of women’s program. We look forward to potentially working with Craig in the future as his time commitments allow and thank him for his enormous contribution to the women’s program.

As we turn our focus towards season 2023 the coaching team and the players are excited to challenge for another Premiership Cup. Daz and the coaching team will continue to build on the successful inaugural premiership season of 2022. Daz is excited about season 2023 and still sees a lot of improvement within the playing group at both an individual and team level.

We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome all the players from the under 18s to the senior squad. Our strength has always been our junior program and it is wonderful to see so many talented girls coming through. They will add to the culture of our club and of course the strength of our women’s program.

Director of Coaching Nick Heath had this to say: “2022 was an amazing year for our inaugural women’s premiership team. Everyone who played a part with the team should be very proud of themselves. You could not have been more impressed with the team’s skill, determination, resilience, poise under pressure to achieve the ultimate goal. Darryl has been a foundation coach from the start of our women’s program and is keen to take the team onwards and upwards. I’d like to wish Daz, Dani, Rob and Milly all the best in their roles for 2023 and thank Craig for his 2022 contribution.”

Retiring Club President Terry Lucas had this to say: “I have said this many times before – the women’s program has brought so many positives to our club, both on and off the field. After beginning in 2017, I was absolutely delighted that the players got their opportunity to taste Premiership success. On top of that they went through undefeated. Dazza has been great to work with and I appreciate the support he gave me as President. Of course, a number of people have contributed to that success over the last 6 years. It takes more than just the 22 players to achieve the ultimate goal. I would like to reiterate the comments re Craig Edwards. He was a terrific contributor to the women’s program. Dazza and his coaching team have led from the front in 2022. They’ve been innovative and have really pushed fitness and strength and conditioning to the forefront as well as skill development. The women responded and earned their reward. Of course, we want to be a club that caters for all abilities so I’m hoping that we can return to having two teams in 2023. With our talented and exciting junior girls coming through, the women’s program will go from strength to strength in the years to come. I had the pleasure of watching some Under 16 and Under 18 girls matches and was very impressed. I’m hoping we are not far way from needing a bigger trophy cabinet. What else can I say – Fins are well and truly up with our junior girls and senior women. Bring on 2023!!"
