Kate Hore Wins AFLW Premiership

Former BFC Junior Plays a Brilliant Game in the AFLW Premiership Win for the D’s

When Kate Hore was growing up in the suburb of Beaumaris, all she wanted to do was play footy. So her parents got her enlisted in Beauy Auskick. Where to next? At that stage neither the BFC or the SMJFL had a Junior Girls premiership program going, so Kate played in mixed teams for a number of years until she got to a point where mixed wasn’t an option.

In the 4 plus years she played Beauy Juniors, Kate proved she could give and take as much as the boys. She also proved that through hard training and dedication you could out run the boys and out stay the boys. One of her early coaches Danny Kelly remembers, “Kate put everything into her football, she trained harder than anyone else and worked on her skills more than anyone. You would often see her after training, doing extra kicking practice. She was a special player, even back then.”

On Sunday Kate fulfilled a lifelong dream to be part on the Melbourne Demons Grand Final winning team. Her 4th quarter was sensational, moving from the forward line to be a ‘swingman’ across the half back line, Kate repeatedly repelled the Lions with her courageous marking ability. We may be biased, but it was a match winning performance.

Earlier this year Kate came back to the BFC to relive her early days for a media profile special. She spoke highly of the club that set her on her path – the Beaumaris Football Club.

That day she was joined by BFC Senior Women’s player Jemima Savage for a chat and a kick to kick. They remain mates. On that day Kate wanted to be photographed under the famous Beauy Shark. (Kate is pictured here with Jemima, herself a VAFA premiership player this year.)

The BFC couldn’t be prouder of Kate and what she’s achieved, 2022 AFLW All Australian and AFLW Grand Final winner.

Tremendous effort Kate, you’ve done us proud.

Go Sharks!
