Six Wins from Six Games to Start Season

Season 2023 Gets Off to an Amazing Start – Six Wins from Six Games

Some of the older members of the club were scratching their heads last night trying to recall a better opening round for the BFC.

All six teams had victories across all parts of the city.

The Senior Mens team, which boasted 8 debutants, held out a resurgent Old Geelong on a slippery deck at Toorak Park. After we had set a solid Qtr time lead, OGFC got back into the game in the 2nd Qtr. Our guys held their nerve in the final Qtr, despite only one on the bench to kick three hard fought goals to seal the win. The best adjudged players were Connor Murphy, Will Skinner, Cal Linehan, Chopper Heath, Oscar McMaster and Matt Harms.

Earlier, the Reserves overcame a 20 point deficit in the 3rd Qtr to snatch a 3 point victory over Old Geelong. Coming back from an extended time out through injury was Joel Di Natale who had a tremendous game. Other good players included Koby Thomson, James Davidson, Matt Lovejoy, Mitch Howes and Jordy Evans, who’s final Qtr performance was outstanding. Congratulations to Matt Lovejoy who played his 100th Senior game, returning to the club.

The Senior Women kicked off their season against Old Camberwell in a Grand Final rematch out at Balwyn North. It was a tremendous start to their title defence winning by 24 points against strong opposition. The game also featured 4 debutants, including Cass Newman who was adjudged best on ground. Simone Marinelli (3) and Sam Mclean (2) were the leading goal scorers. Other good players included Taylah Tysoe, Mikala Clarke, Sienna Tedde and another first gamer, Katelyn Randall.

Meanwhile, at Marcellin College the Thirds opened up their account for the season with a dominant 44 point win over Old Marcellin. These boys will be out to avenge a disappointing end to last season, losing 2 finals games. Tremendous way to kick start the season.

Both Under 19s teams indicated they will be a handful for opposition sides this season. The Div 4 team defeated St Kevins by a whopping 112 points with Max Parkes (3), Pat Horne (2), Fin Burgess (2) the leading goal kickers amongst many individual scorers.

The Div 1 team impressed with a solid win against Old Trinity. Seb Stewart (4), James Pepper (2) and Charlie Bruce (2) were the leading goalkickers, while Bruce, Stewart, Petr Pecer, Ted Clayton, Will Pearson and Cooper Eckert were adjudged best players.

Final scores.
