Senior Teams celebrate 60th Year anniversary weekend with a clean sweep of wins.
This is a special week for the BFC as we celebrate the first 60 years of our club. Exactly 60 years ago tomorrow, the first teams took the field representing the Beaumaris Football Club in the famous Blue and Gold. For many, tonight’s celebration event will be an opportunity to rekindle old acquaintances and friendships. We will also be announcing the Men’s and Women’s ‘Teams of the Decade’.
On Saturday, the club honoured the fallen with a wonderful ANZAC commemoration along with players and officials from our great rival, St Bedes/Mentone and the whole umpiring crew. Many thanks to Ron Nicholson and Clarke Martin who presided over the Anzac ceremony.
After the Senior Mens game a group of past players joined the current players to sing the club’s victory song. It was a memorable moment.
For two players, Jimmy Freeman and Joe Nowell, it must have been an extra special moment being their first games for the club, at the Senior level as well. Congrats to those boys who were presented with their jumpers by club legends Doug Ensor and Mick De Fontenay! For two other players, Cal Heath and Matt Lovejoy it was the day to celebrate their 100th Senior games. Tremendous achievement ‘Chopper’ and ‘Lovers’.
Well done to all six Senior teams. On a weekend that meant so much to so many, there’s nothing like the smell of victory.
Happy 60th Birthday to the Beaumaris Football Club.
