Mixed Results for Senior Teams

Round 3 Throws up Mixed Results for our Senior Teams.

It was weekend of mixed fortunes for our Senior teams over the weekend. At home, the Womens and both U19s teams had good wins, all three teams playing the broad expanses of Oak St to perfection. On the other hand, the Seniors and Reserves were beaten by two very good St Bernards teams at the Snake Pit, while the Thirds, who had to play a rescheduled game on Sunday at Burwood, went down to Ajax.

For the Seniors, Riley Mihailovic was again outstanding and is clearly having his best season since breaking into the Seniors in 2021. Jimmy Freeman kicked 3 goals to be our leading goal kicker. Congrats to Ben Hempel who played his first Senior game for the Club, kicking a goal and being amongst our best. Presenting Ben his jumper prior to the game was forwards coach Stephen Milne.

Best for the Reserves in his 2nd senior level game was Oskar Phillips, while best for the Thirds was Lachie Jones.

The Senior Women celebrated their premiership flag unfurling with a solid win over newly promoted Hampton. Nice gesture prior to the game by the Rovers who lined up with our girls for the flag unfurling. Cass Newman continued her top form with another ‘best on ground’ performance, while Simone Marinelli was at her compelling best around goals, kicking four majors. Special mention to Jas Shepherd who was tremendous in her debut game for the club.

It was the first time at Oak St this season for the two U19s teams on Saturday and both teams played exceptional footy to run out comprehensive winners. Clear standout for the ‘Ones’ was Calsher Dear who was simply scintillating kicking 9 goals against Old Haileybury. In that kind of form, Calsher is as compelling to watch as anyone in the club. He was outstanding. In great support was Nic Plevritis who is back to his best.

The U19s ‘Twos’ may have unearthed a potential goalkicker for the future in Luke Caris who kicked six against Old Mckinnon/Glen Eira. Presley Evans, playing just his third game for the club, was nominated as our best.
