This week’s BFC Seniors ‘Player of the Round’ is Calsher Dear from the U19s Div1 Mens team.
Last Saturday Calsh and his team-mates were in top form running away from Old Haileybury to record a stunning victory. For his part, Calsher kicked 9 goals to be clearly ‘best on ground’.
Final score:
BFC 28.18-186 - Old Haileybury 5.3-33
There’s been no doubting Calsher’s ability, even at an early age he was taking high flying marks and running with boundless enthusiasm. Calsh has been playing at the club since 2013, starting in the U9s, though eligible for U8s. In 2019 he was part of the U14 Div 1 Premiership side and last year played a blinder in the U17 Div1 Grand Final victory. His unbelievable marks in the goal square were match winners.
In all, Calsher has played 125 games for the club. He is currently trialling for the Vic Metro side.
U19s Head Coach Justin Wilson put it into perspective, “Calsher's development has been phenomenal. His efforts in and around the ball and his all-round game have gone to another level. His athleticism allows him to do all the hard, second effort stuff with strength and speed – pressure on the deck, smother tackling and work rate, it’s all there. Plus, he knows where the goals are. On top of that, he’s a tremendous, well balanced and thoughtful young man. He’s a pleasure to coach and know.”
Hopefully we’ll see more of Calsher throughout the season. We certainly hope so.
Well done Calsh, BFC Seniors ‘Player of the Round’.
