When Ben Andrews played his first game for the club in Round 1 against Old Geelong not too many people knew who he was outside of the players and coaching staff.
But heading into Round 5, that’s all changed. Ben has become a mainstay of the Senior Men’s team and proven to be a versatile and athletic footballer. He started the season down back, but in the last 2 weeks has been moved up forward, in fact kicking 4 goals against Williamstown CYMS last Saturday.
Ben is very accomplished with ball in hand and instinctively possesses decision time. He is strong in the air and is a good kick. Head Coach Josh Bourke added, “since making the transition from NAB league footy with the Sandringham Dragons, Benny Andrews hasn’t missed a beat and has certainly earned the respect of all his teammates with his attack on the contest, particularly in the air.
Beaumaris Dad and Williamstown VFL coach Justin Plapp has mentioned that Ben’s preseason was outstanding, and he isn’t surprised by his start to the season.
Proving his flexibility and talent, he’s transitioned forward the past two weeks, kicking a bag of four on the weekend. We’re certainly excited to see what Ben can achieve in the coming years and he’s certainly become part of the shiver!”
Ben started his football as a junior at St Kilda City in 2011 before moving to East Brighton in 2019. In 2021 Ben was part of the Sandy Dragons program.
Coach Bourke had Ben on his radar from day 1 and we’re happy he did.
At only 20 years of age, Ben has it all before him. He has certainly made his presence felt after just 4 games at the Beaumaris Football Club.
Well done Ben.
