The Women’s team played Old Brighton on the front oval at Beauy Sec, which was a great experience to play on a pristine surface. The game itself was a battle that went to the wire and after a number of lead changes throughout the game, we hit the lead with just over a minute to go. Then, with the game in the balance in the Old Brighton forward line with seconds left, defender Mikala Clarke pulled off a brilliant smother which allowed us to run down the clock. It was a heart stopping victory. Credit to Old Brighton who were tough and persistent. In the end, it was our unrelenting pressure that won the day.
Out at Trinity, the Senior Mens toughed out a strong 13-point win, while the Reserves lost to a good Trinity side. For the Seniors, Cal Linehan used all his defensive skills and leadership to hold out the Trinity forwards and restrict them to just 5 goals. It was a great effort by our back six, superbly lead by Liners. Nic Plevritis was the leading goal kicker with 2. Also, great to have Max Williams back in the side.
Special mention to Charlie Bruce who played his debut game in the Seniors on Saturday up from the Under19s. Charlie’s form in the 19s has been undeniable and deserved his chance at the top level. He made the coaches top 5 best players, which is fantastic. Well done Charlie. (Pictured here with his Mum, Dad and Grandmother)
For the Reserves Koby Thomson continued his good form to be our best, while Matt Lovejoy kicked 2 goals.
Back at Oak St, the two Under19s teams experienced mixed results. The newly promoted U19 Division 3 team went down to De La Salle in the last kick of the game. They seemingly had the game wrapped up, but couldn’t hold out a final De La surge. Something to work on there. Ryan Young and Ollie Pearce each kicked three goals.
The U19 Div 1 team proved too strong for Old Xavs, and after 5 rounds sit undefeated on top of the ladder. Will Pearson continued his exceptional form, while a time restricted Calsher Dear was still able to kick 5 goals.
