Great to see 4 of our 6 Senior teams sitting on top of their respective ladders after 6 rounds of footy, the Womens, Thirds, U19s Div1 and the U19s Div 3.
The Seniors and Reserves are in 3rd place on their ladders, both within striking distance of the top 2. The big test for both those teams will come this weekend with away games to Fitzroy.
The good ladder positions came as a result of another six from six round of footy. That’s not to say it was all easy going. The Womens and U19 Div1 were both tight matches.
The U19 boys were boosted by a great captain’s performance from Angus Newman. In the last quarter against Old Trinity, Angus put it all on the line, his desperation and resilience was inspiring. The boys got over the line by 2 points.
Another Newman, Cassie, was the inspiration behind the Women’s win against Old Melburnians at Elsternwick Park. In her first season for the club, Cassie has been tremendous from Round 1. She played all her junior footy at Mordi-Brae, making the move to the BFC this season, essentially to broaden her opportunities. We’re thankful she did. A great last quarter from Sarah Collins lifted the girls to a hard earned 6 point win.
The Seniors and Reserves had convincing wins over Monash Blues, Jimmy Freeman and Matt Lovejoy outstanding for their respective teams. Jimmy kicked seven goals for the 1’s while Jordan Smith’s straight kicking netting him four in the Reserves. Special mention to Chopper Heath who is having a brilliant season for the Senior boys, up and down the ground taking great marks to go with his outstanding ruck work.
Playing their 2nd game in Division 3 the U19 2’s proved too strong for Bulleen/Templestowe, which was great to see after their last kick loss last week. Carlos Reynolds stepped up to be our best.
The Thirds had the early 9:20am start at Loft Reserve, but brushed off the West Gate fog to get the better of Williamstown and draw away in the last quarter. Max Adams, who is having a great season, was best on ground.
Well done to all our Senior teams – six from six again.
