When Koby Thomson returned to the Club this year after a season at St Bedes he was welcomed back with open arms. Afterall, Koby was an integral part of the BFC Premiership winning 2017 Under 15 Div 1 Boys side, a team rich in talent and character. One of the great premiership wins and a team loaded with current Senior players and AFL draftees.
Koby started his footy in the Chelt Juniors and moved to the BFC in 2017 to ensure he played Div 1 footy. By the end of that year, he had collected a Div 1 Premiership medal.
After a strong pre-season this year, Koby has played every game this year with distinction in the Reserves, which includes a couple of ‘best on grounds’.
Over the years Koby has made his mark predominately as a rugged half back, seriously hard to tackle and difficult to get by. He has deceptive speed and could easily be mistaken for a winger. Such was the case last Saturday when he launched into two long runs from defence to attack, both times resulting in a goal to one of the forwards. It was scintillating stuff. This year Koby has been more of a utility player, adaptable to numerous positions on the ground.
Coach Steve ‘Stubba’ Scott takes up the story, “Koby is a ripper young bloke who continues to get better, week to week. One of the hardest workers in the group, he’s getting rewarded with his on-field performances. I can play Koby midfield, forward or back and he does it with no fuss. Tough, skilful, courageous, but I think his best attribute is his selflessness towards the group, It’s always team first with Koby. Certainly, one bloke I’d love to run out with every week.”
That says it all.
Well deserved ‘Player of the Round’ - Koby Thomson.
