Juniors Player of the Round

Round 6 BFC Juniors “PLAYER of the ROUND” – Liam Basil

There’s something compelling about the BFC U13 Div 1 Boys team this year, not just for the fact they’re 5- 0 for the season, but there seems to be a prevailing sense of purpose amongst the boys. They’re on a mission! And there’s one player, in particular, who embodies that belief – Liam Basil.

Liam, came under notice last year, not just by his coaches and the club, but he also caught the eye of the State schoolboys selectors and played in the National Championships representing Victoria. Quite an honour. From all reports he played with distinction.

Thing is, when you represent your state, you come back to club footy with a target. However, Liam is getting used to taggers, in fact last week Coach Justin Plapp started Liam in the backline to confuse the opposition. Then in the 2nd half, switched him to half forward, when he would normally play midfield. Down back he took some clutch marks against Hampton that even had opposition parents in awe.

Coach Plapp takes up the story, “Liam is a super talented young junior and he has a very bright future ahead of him. He possesses a level of intensity, hardness and aggression that I haven’t seen in players of his age before. His ability to win the ball in a range of different contested situations is highlight of his game. Liam is the type of player that every player wants on his team, he leads by example on game day and also off the field.”

That really sums it up.

Keep in mind, this team also produced first and third in last season’s SMJFL B&F, Jack and Mitchell Henderson.

There’s no doubt this team is going to have a real crack this season and from what they’ve shown so far, we reckon they’re in with a strong chance.

Go luck Liam and the U13 Div 1 Boys.
