Round 7 BFC Seniors 'PLAYER of the ROUND' – Cal ‘Chopper’ Heath
When Cal Heath made his BFC debut in the U9s back in 2006 as an 8 year-old, few would have thought that almost 250 games later Chopper would still be plying his craft every weekend for the Beaumaris Football Club.
His craft, of course, is ruck work and Chopper has virtually made it an art form and his dependability and endurance have made him one of the pre-eminent players in the League. What stands out about Chopper is his innate reading of the play, which allows him to master the intercept mark. This is bolstered by his vertical leap and his catching reflexes. In addition, Chopper is an excellent set shot for goal from his towering left foot.
This year, Chopper has gone to another level, featuring weekly in our best players. In 2017 he won the U19s ‘Premier Division’ Club B&F and in 2019 won the ‘Mick Kirkby’ Club Champion award for best Senior player.
Head Coach Josh Bourke summed it up, “Cal has been a picture of consistency in 2023, the coaches rate the players after every game and so far Cal has rated under 4 only once, (which is exceptional)! He is far and away the best contested mark in the competition and while quiet, he’s actions certainly do the talking. He is a pleasure to coach and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve this year.”
Well done Chopper – Senior 'Player of the Round'.
