Round 8 - Full Time
There’s no doubt that Joel Cusack is vital to the Senior Mens team. His presence up forward is immense, his contested marking or more particularly his lead-up marking is invaluable to the team. Joel suffered a terrible facial injury in a pre-season trail game. Despite that set back, Joel remained committed to his footy and steadfast to the club. When he was able to do so, he became runner for the Senior team. On his return last Saturday against Ajax, Joel kicked seven goals in a mighty return. Welcome back Joely!
Prior to the game there was an emotional jumper presentation for debutant Tyson Milne who was presented with his jumper by his dad Stephen. (see previous post for more)
Later that day the Thirds filled the twilight spot and played some of their best footy of the season to run out comfortable winners against Mazenod OC. It also marked the 100th game for long time servant of the club, Nick Lapa. Well done Nick.
The Reserves fielded one of their strongest sides of the year and they proved too strong for Ajax. ‘Team of the Decade’ member Jack Gabron-Uhe keeps reminding us why he’s in that illustrious side with his marking and skilful reading of the play. Cooper Ryan and Lawson Daniels continued their good form.
Sadly, the Women’s game ended prematurely after a Hampton girl suffered a serious leg injury. VAFA have determined the game to be a draw, which is unfortunate because it sort of ends the girls winning streak. At the time of the incident, we were up by 17 points. Speedy recovery and best wishes to the injured Hampton girl.
Congrats to MacKenzie Farrington who played her first Senior game, up from the U16s Div 1 team. Well done Mac. (Pictured here with her U16s coach, Jemima Savage and her parents, Megan and Allen)
The Div 1 U19s team had too much fire power for their Parkdale counterparts, kicking 28 goals with 14 different goal kickers. Spencer McLennan, back from a stint in the Seniors, was outstanding.
On Sunday, the U19s Div 3 boys went down to Marcellin. Like the previous week, the guys were in the game right to the end. Jackson Mellett was our best.
