Congratulations Spencer McLennan - BFC Senior Teams- Player of the Round
Spencer McLennan has always impressed as a player, going back to the Under 9s, he seemed to be a player with great balance and time. In the ensuing 11 years that hasn’t changed.
This is Spencer’s 2nd season in the Under19s. Seniors Head Coach Josh Bourke, in recognising Spencer’s talent, has introduced him to Senior footy already this season where he played with poise and assurance.
Spencer’s journey with the BFC started in the U9s back in 2012. Since then, he has played 135 games for the club, plus 5 rep games during his junior years. Last year Spencer finished 2nd in the U19s B&F behind his good mate Nic Plevritis.
This year Spencer has his eyes on the U19s Division 1 trophy, it’s something he’s focussed on and if successful would be the first BFC U19’s premiership since the 2008 premiership, ironically enough coached by a young Josh Bourke.
It’s not hard to miss Spencer out on the ground, he’s usually the guy with the ball. Coach Justin Wilson puts it more succinctly, “Spence in an incredibly hard-working midfielder who possesses a lethal left foot. If opposition teams give him time and space, he will be sure to hurt them. His recent promotion to the senior team has seen him strengthen his contested ball football. A great decision maker on the field, who is going to be a great long term senior player for Beaumaris.”
The good thing also is there are more McLennan‘s on the horizon, younger siblings Saxon and Morgan are making their way through the junior ranks, while Dad Gus is one of our most revered junior coaches.
Well done Spencer.
You can catch our U19s Div 1 team at the VAFA U19s Carnival at Elsternwick Park on Saturday at 11:40AM.
