BFC to honour Paul Dear

The Beaumaris Football Club will be dedicating VAFA Round 11 to the ‘Dare to Hope’ Foundation to remember and honour the late Paul Dear who died of Pancreatic Cancer in 2022.

Not only was Paul a champion of the Hawthorn Football Club, a Premiership Player and a Norm Smith Medallist, he was also heavily involved at the BFC as a coach and a long-time volunteer.

Paul’s three sons Harry, Nate and Calsher have all played their Junior footy at the BFC. Nate and Calsher are still playing at the club in the U19s and Seniors.

‘Dare to Hope’ is Paul’s legacy, created by his family to improve awareness and fund research for innovative treatments to better treat pancreatic cancer through the Pancare Foundation.

The Hawthorn vs Carlton game on Sunday 2nd July will be the second AFL ‘Dare to Hope’ match, which will also raise awareness and funds for the Dare to Hope: Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund.

All donations are gratefully accepted.

For Round 11 on Saturday 1st all BFC Senior teams will wear special purple coloured ‘Dare to Hope’ socks as a tribute to Paul and to raise awareness for the Dare to Hope project.

Special thanks to Under 19s Head Coach Justin Wilson and his business YO My Goodness for funding the socks and for donating $500 to ‘Dare to Hope’.

On the Sunday the 2nd ‘Dare to Hope’ match will require some volunteers in the morning before the Hawthorn vs Carlton game to help set up at the MCG. All volunteers will receive a free general admission ticket to the Hawthorn v Carlton game. If you’re interested contact Tony Doherty – 0418 102 201

The Club would like to acknowledge ‘Dare to Hope’ convenor and co-founder Cherie Dear who works tirelessly for this vital cause. Amazing commitment and resilience Cherie.
