It was a brilliant round of footy for our Senior teams over the weekend with all six teams winning.
The club now has all six teams in the top four, which will hopefully set us up for a good run towards the finals.
However, there’s still much to play out and with home & away fixtures still to play, anything can happen.
Heartfelt commiserations to Seniors player Josh Gorman who suffered a badly broken ankle in the game against Fitzroy. Josh had been in tremendous form leading up to this and his midfield prowess will be sorely missed. Speedy recovery Josh, our thoughts are with you.
On the other side of the ledger, the Seniors welcomed back Captain Joel Di Natale from a long lay-off with injury. Joel is an inspirational captain and his fearless approach as an ‘in and under mid’ lifts the players around him. Fingers crossed he can stay heathy.
Both the Seniors and Reserves recorded impressive wins against Fitzroy, reversing the results from Round 7. The Seniors played inspired footy in the last quarter kicking 6 goals to put the game out of reach. Joel Cusack kicked four for the match, with Ben Hempel and Riley Virtue contributing with two apiece.
In the Reserves our defenders were outstanding with James Davidson, and the Tedde brothers leading the way. Matt Scott, playing as a defensive midfielder was our best among many.
Both U19s teams recorded great wins, especially the Div 3 team on Friday night who played with lots of courage to overcome fellow finals aspirant, Marcellin OC by 40 points.
In the U19s Div 1’s, Tom O’Rourke continued to impress with an outstanding display in defence against Old Melburnians. Jett Butler kicked five goals.
The Thirds suited up on Sunday to record an important win against Ajax. We’d also like to wish Lachie Francis a speedy recovery from a dislocated knee cap suffered during the game.
The Women's team got a fright from Old Haileybury in a game with reduced numbers because of a player shortage at Haileybury. It seemed to upset our rhythm. The girls held their nerve to come from behind to snatch the win.
Special mention to long time club servant Byron Hughes who played his 200th last week.
