Round 15 - Full Time

Any discussion about Round 15 of the 2023 season will revolve around the feats of Calsher Dear who kicked an extraordinary 14 goals for the U19s Div 1 side against Parkdale on Saturday. It was breathtaking stuff as Parkdale had no answer for the high marking athleticism of Calsher.

Having just turned 18 the day before, Calsher’s performance has only been surpassed twice in the club’s history at Senior level. In 1965 Geoff Skinner kicked 18 goals on the way to amassing 112 majors for the season in a Premiership year when Geoff won the League B&F.

Then in the early 90’s Brook King, who is the father of Max and Ben, kicked 16 in a game before being part of the ’95 Premiership winning team.

As we know, the Dear family is entrenched in the Sharks community and playing for the club is part of life for the family. Calsher’s feats form part of a list of highlights compiled by he and his brothers, Harry and Nate.

Well done Calsh, a memorable performance - 14 goals in the one game, an amazing effort.

In other news from Saturday, the Seniors were disappointing, losing to De La Salle in a vital game, goal kicking accuracy letting the team down.

The Women’s team, who were without Captain Sam Baisas and Vice-Captain Sarah Collins, had to dig deep to overcome a determined Old Geelong. Stand in Captain, Sienna Tedde, rucked all game and was outstanding, while Loz Haringsma was fearless down back negating many a forward push with her ‘eyes only for the ball’ courage. Well done also to recently promoted Junior Sarah Love who kicked 2 vital goals.

The Reserves continued their good form winning their 4th on the trot and now sit in 4th place on the ladder 2 games clear of Old Geelong. James Kerr was our best. These boys, under coach Steve Scott, are really putting together a solid season.

The U19s Div 3 team conjured another strong win to hang onto 2nd place on the ladder. It was a real team effort on Saturday night with goals being shared by 11 players. Josh Rabak, in a rich vein of form, was tremendous.

Special mention to Ted Clayton who made his Seniors debut on Saturday at only 17 years of age. Congratulations Ted.
