Junior Finals Week 1 Recap

After the first week of Finals for our Juniors, 14 of the 19 teams qualified are still alive.

This Sunday, we have 5 teams in Grand Finals and 6 in Preliminary Finals. MASSIVE!

Qualified for the Grand Final on Sept 10th is the 17.5 Boys team who went straight through after defeating Ormond.

Finals action gets underway tonight for the U14s Div 1 and U14s Div2.

Some of the action last Sunday was nail-biting, the Under 12 Div 1 Boys held tough against East Sandy, Liam Holt providing the match sealer with seconds to go. Liam was in everything in the final quarter and was inspirational.

The Under 17.5 Boys didn’t kick a goal in the 2nd half but held on to win thanks to a massive effort by their defensive six. Max Chalamandaris and Harvey Backman were outstanding all game, while Harry Lewis continued his excellent form up forward with 4 goals in a low scoring game.

The U16Div 1 Girls had to go to extra time to get the jump on the Vampires. Outstanding performances by Gabi Trajer, Liv Smith and Rosie Taylor lifted the team to a great win.

Liam Basil shrugged off his tag to inspire the U13 Div 1 boys to a comprehensive win over South Melbourne. The boys kicked 15 goals to dominate the game. Kieran McCarthy and Jack Plapp each kicked 3 goals.

Our equal leading goal kicker with six for the day was Macey Backman who was brilliant for the U13 Div 1 Girls. These girls are looking to go one better than last year.

Also kicking six was Ellie Cole for the U12 Div 1 Girls. These girls are peaking at the right time and will go into the GF brimming with confidence.

The U11 Div2 Boys are pugnacious and tough and proved that on Sunday with a hard-fought win. They will put everything into Sunday’s GF.

The U16 Div 3 Boys progress to the Prelim Final after their win against St Pauls. Jesse Mier kicked 4 goals to be our best.

Commiserations to the teams that didn’t progress, getting to the finals is an achievement in itself. Well done on a great season.
