When it comes down to what may be the best team in our Senior ranks this season, it’s hard to go past our U19s Div 1 Team.
The remain undefeated, they have not only topped the ladder in their division, but they have also shown great depth in numbers. The Div 3 team got promoted to that division mid-season and performed incredibly well against stand alone teams from other clubs, made the semis and finished 4th. Well done the Div 3 Boys on a fantastic season. On top of that the U19s boys have been a great support for the BFC Seniors this whole season.
On Saturday, the Div 1 team under coach Justin Wilson will play in a Grand Final against Old Trinity in what promises to be an absorbing contest. This will be the final chance for a BFC Senior team to win a premiership this season.
This team is a great story – they are a combination of BFC Juniors and boys from other clubs who felt their aspirations were better served at our club. Great call! There was a huge buzz about this team after many of them won the U17s Div1 premiership last year, along with the U16s Div 1 premiership.
Add it all up and it’s a really strong group, the Div1 team has been exceptional all season. We caught up with the boys at training tonight for a quick photo.
Huge mention to Spencer McLennan who WON the VAFA Best & Fairest last night for the U19s Division One. This is an amazing achievement and in the history of the club has only been won 3 other times at the U19s level. Congratulations Spencer! (Pictured here with Club President Nick Heath)
So, the Grand Final is on Saturday at 9.00AM at Elsternwick Park. We’d love you to come down and support our boys.
(can we just say, Calsher Dear, against his best wishes, cannot play on Saturday as he is playing in the AFL U18s Grand Final on Sunday. Calsh finished equal 3rd on the VAFA B&F and 2nd on the goal scorers, despite limited opportunities.
