An interested spectator at the Senior Men’s game at Oak St on Saturday was one Calsher Dear, only 24 hours before he was to make his successful Seniors debut for Hawthorn, kicking 2 vital goals in the Hawks upset win over the Bulldogs.
Calsher is pictured here with his former U19s teams mates prior to their twilight game against Williamstown, which they went on to win. Ironically enough kicking the ball is Calsher's U19s team mate from last season Ted Clayton. Also playing in the Seniors game was Calsher’s older brother Nate, who kicked three quality goals in their agonising 2 point loss to Caulfield Grammarians.
Calsher enjoyed many highlights at the BFC since starting in the Under 8s, winning 2 Junior Premierships, the SMJFL 2019 U14s Division1 Grand Final and the prized 2022 U17 Boys Division1 Grand Final, in which he played a starring role.
Last year, in his first year playing VAFA footy at the BFC Calsher made his Seniors debut against Monash Uni and who will forget the 14 goals he kicked in the Round 14 U19s game against Parkdale, a feat only twice surpassed in the club’s 61-year history.
Unfortunately for Calsh he was unable to play with his mates in the U19s Division 1 Premiership last year due to the Sandy Dragons Grand Final the following day. Thankfully the Dragons went on to claim the coveted AFL Talent League Premiership, Calsher again playing a pivotal role.
Then on Sunday, with the spirit of his late father riding on his young shoulders, Calsher kicked 2 important goals for the Hawks, the second a set shot late in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. Calm as you like, Calsher went back and slotted the goal much to the delight of his team mates and fans.
Well done Calsh, now a fully fledged Hawk, with the Sharks still close to his heart.
Fins up and GO SHARKS!
