Full Time Round 8

Full Time Rounds 8 & 9

There was a big crowd on hand to watch the Senior Men’s team put their stamp on the game in the final quarter against Old Geelong on Saturday. Other than the previous game against St Bedes, there had been a couple of tight 4th quarter swings in recent rounds. However, this was not the case on Saturday.

Some key points of note:
(1) First gamer, Luka Pecer, made a huge impression with his presence and marking ability, which no doubt had a huge effect on his brother Petar who played his best game since starting in the Seniors. It was great to see the brothers in such great form as they were on Saturday.

(2) Jai Florent is an enormously gifted footballer, and all those attributes were on display against OGFC. Jai had an outstanding game and his all-round game offset the last-minute withdrawals of Mihailovic and Nish due to injury.

(3) Cal Heath is a workhorse for the Senior team. When he’s not in the ruck, he’ll be floating across half back taking intercept marks or deep in the forward line clutching contested grabs and kicking important goals. A pivotal player to this team.

Other good players included Cal Linehan and Oscar McMaster.

Overall, a great win for the team and for the 115 people at the Match Day lunch, it was a fitting conclusion to a fantastic day.

An undermanned Reserves, who had to draw on players from the Youth Reserves, were resilient but eventually OGFC got the upper hand in the 2nd half. Our best were Lucas Monacella, Matteo Barba and Ben O’Brien.

The U19 Prem boys were brave against Caulfield who proved too strong in the end. Max Newman-Morris kicked 4 goals to be amongst our best, which included Mitch Davidson, Jacob Whitehouse and George Lewis.

Both Womens teams were always going to find the going tough away to Old Williamstown who are undefeated and on top of the Prem B ladder. Despite the losses, both teams were very courageous and fought to the final whistle. Best for the Senior team were Saoirse Rossi, Meg Lambert and Liv Stockdale, while the Reserves best were Maya Buhl, Alana Hilford and Remy Barker.

The U19 Div 4 and the Youth Reserves both had byes.
