Well done to former BFC Junior Joel Amartey who kicked 9 goals for the Sydney Swans on Saturday night against the Adelaide Crows. It was a brilliant effort!
It feels like Joel is coming of age as a genuine full forward for the Swans having played understudy to Buddy for the past 5 years. Not a bad mentor to have around you in your formative AFL years though.
Those 9 goals also puts Joel in the running for the Coleman Medal if his great form continues, although the medal is probably the last thing on his mind.
Joel was a premiership player for the BFC in 2016 playing in the U17 Div 1 team, which took all before them that season. He played at the Dragons the following year and was drafted to the Swans in the mid-season rookie draft in 2018. Subsequently, he has played 41 games for the Swans.
Joel dropped into the club recently with Swans teammate and another former BFC Junior & Senior player Ollie Florent for a chat when they were last in Melbourne. Pictured here with Ron Nicholson.
Super effort Joel and best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Go Sharks!
