Full Time Round 10

There was no shortage of Sharks spirit on display across all Senior games last Saturday.

The Senior Men’s team, playing away to the top of the ladder Old Haileybury, were always in the game. At half time only 2 points separated the two teams, a 3 goal to zero break in the third Qtr, proved the difference in the end, our guys actually outscoring OH in the final Qtr.

Although disappointing to lose, there were encouraging signs and some genuine highlights. The performance of the back six was a feature, with Cal Linehan, Darcy James and Spencer McLennan outstanding. Other good players included Cal Heath, Riley Virtue and Ben Mathews. Ironically, Haileybury’s best player was Charlie Harrop (4 goals) a former Beauy junior and premiership player.

Congrats to Jhett Haeata who played his first Senior game for the club.

The Reserves (pictured), had a great win over Old Haileybury. It was a fitting result for Drew Kelly who played his 100th Senior game on Saturday. Drew started playing for the Sharks in the Juniors back in 2009, then in 2016 he starred in the last Seniors premiership for the club, kicking 3 goals in the Premier B Grand Final. Living in the outer eastern suburbs has made it difficult for Drew in recent years, but his return has been welcomed and he joins the select 100 Club. Well done Drew!

Best players included Andreas Baruhas, Lucas Monacella, Mark Ensor (4 goals), Noah Beveridge, Cooper Ryan and Dion Hall-McNish.

In an unexpected result, the U19s Prem team went down to De La in a tight game at home. Our guys produced moments of brilliance, but weren’t able to sustain momentum throughout the game. Our best were Carlos Reynolds, Angus Bowd, Ted Clayton, Ned Bodi, Mitch Davidson and Tom O’Rourke.

In the Prem B Women’s comp, Fitzroy is one of the standout clubs, with depth across both teams. On Saturday they recorded wins against our two teams who performed bravely and played with energy and spirit.

Best for the Senior team were Sienna Tedde, Anna Sutcliffe, Taylah Tysoe, Sunday Hollingsworth, Rosie Byrne and Meg Lambert. Reserves best were Maya Buhl, Holly Bowles, Sophie Keogh, Tess Cahill, Niamh Fitzgerald and Amy Watkins.
