Another round of mixed fortunes for our Senior teams last weekend.
Friday night kick-started the weekend with the U19 Twos fighting out a tough win against Old Xavs. This game could have gone either way, inaccurate kicking not helping our cause, but in a tense finish we managed to prevail by just 3 points in a nail biter. Charles Galvin kicked 3 goals to take his season tally to 25. Best players included Cooper Dickson, Ben Newman-Morris, Daniel Butler, Matthew Moody, Saxon McLennan and Brandan Whyte.
The U19 Prem team, which had to give up top players to the Seniors, were always facing a tough proposition away to Old Scotch who are perched in the top 2 on the Prem ladder. Best players were Max Newman-Morris, Carlos Reynolds, Harrison Long and Matt Scherger.
It’s been a tough assignment for Men’s Head Coach Josh Bourke trying to field a side that resembled the one that played the previous week. A spate of injuries, illness and unavailability has made consistency impossible for the majority of the season. With ruckman Cal Heath out last Saturday as well as a number of Senior team regulars, the job on hand was going to always be tough against a well drilled De La side. Better players included James Pepper, Connor Murphy, Ben Mathews, Charlie Wilce, Aiden McCarthy and Oscar McMaster. Congratulations to McCarthy, Andreas Baruhas, Ned Bodi, and Lucas Monacella who all made their Senior team debuts.
The Reserves also found the going a challenge against a strong De La twos. Noah Beveridge, Seb Stewart, Josh Plaisted and Aidan Scott were our best.
Out in Wantirna our two Women’s teams enjoyed excellent wins against Aquinas. The Seniors welcomed back Sam Baisas, Ella Southgate (3 goals) and Ash Van Rooyen who all were in our best. This win keeps the girls within striking distance of the top 4. Other good players included Ruby Raymond, Sienna Tedde and Anna Sutcliffe. Congrats to debutant Niamh Fitzgerald.
The Women’s Reserves sit outside the ‘Four’ on percentage only which is a credit to this team. Best players were Remy Barker, Ally Gilchrist, Maya Buhl, Millie Marshall, Ruby Brabner and Tess Cahill. Great to see Ally back and amongst the goals.
