Full Time Rounds 14 & 15
Despite the Reserve Men having to forfeit, regrettably, there was some great footy action across the other games.
Up until ¾ qtr time the Senior Men had been tremendous, they had worked hard to stay level with Old Ivanhoe and given themselves every opportunity to sneak a win away. However, Old Ivanhoe prevailed, taking their opportunities on goal in the 4th. Our guys can hold their heads high; it was a much more complete performance. Best players were Oscar McMaster, Cal Heath, Jack Challands, Ned Bodi, Ben Mathews and Luka Pecer (3 goals).
On Friday night at St Bedes, the U19 Prem team found the Tigers, who are challenging for a Top 4 berth, too strong on the night. It was a bit like ‘old times week’ for many of the guys on both sides, as most players know each other. Our best were Carlos Reynolds, Angus Bowd, Niall Hayes, Aiden McCarthy, Will Pearson and Alex Ward.
In the Women’s Prem B Division, Williamstown have been untouchable all season, unbeaten with 15 straight wins and a 314%. However, they had a real fight on their hands at Banksia, our girls serving up an amazing defensive effort. Put into perspective, Williamstown scored only 2 points after half time, despite all their fire power. Had we managed to kick straighter, 7 points could have easily been 3.4 and thus the game. Best for us was Zoe Barbakos, Caley Ryan, Alana Hilford, Cass Newman, Sienna Tedde and Sarah Collins.
Earlier, the U19 Two’s had forged out an impressive win against Therry Penola. The Lewis boys, playing together in this team, were outstanding, be it in defence or around goals. They were well supported by Angus Marcombe, Presley Evans, Matt Moody and Mason Cartwright. The win places this team in 3rd position on the U19s Div 4 ladder with 3 rds to go.
The Women’s Reserves rounded out games at Banksia and came away with an impressive win. These girls looked really sharp and attacked the ball with purpose. They kept a team higher on the ladder to only 2 points, which is a credit to them. Ally Gilchrist was in a class on her own and she was well supported by Sophie Keogh, Olivia Smith, Remy Barker, Felicity Hilford and Holly Bowles.
Both our Women's teams are playing in the away strip.
